Installation Methods

IBE and Genius Weft
Hair Extensions

Two of the most sought-after extension methods in the industry and the foundation of everything Phanes is built around.

The Invisible Bead Method

A healthier install, from the ground up.

The Invisible Bead Method, commonly known as IBE or IBM, is a weft-based hair extension technique that uses small beads instead of glue, tape, or heat to secure the weft to the hair. The beads are attached directly to the natural hair and the weft is sewn onto a row of beads, sitting flat against the scalp and moving naturally with the client's hair.

IBE is widely regarded as one of the healthiest installation methods available. Because there is no adhesive or chemical bond, the integrity of the natural hair is preserved throughout the wear and removal process. The method also distributes weight evenly across multiple anchor points, reducing tension on individual strands and minimizing the risk of damage or breakage over time.

For clients, IBE results in a seamless, natural-looking install that blends well at all angles. For stylists, it offers a clean, repeatable technique with predictable results when paired with the right product.

Genius Weft

Flat, customizable, and built for seamless blending.

Genius Weft is a machine-sewn weft construction with a thin, flat base designed to lay flush against the scalp. Unlike hand-tied wefts, Genius Weft can be cut to any width without shedding, making it fully customizable for each client's install. The track is narrow enough to remain invisible even in finer hair, while the weft itself carries enough density to deliver the volume and length clients are looking for.

Genius Weft works particularly well with IBE because the thin base allows for a flat, comfortable install with minimal bulk. It also performs well across other weft-based methods, giving stylists flexibility depending on the client's hair type and the result they're after.

Why the product matters

Technique is only half of it.

The quality of an IBE or Genius Weft install is only as good as the hair being used. Inconsistent weight, poor construction, or hair that doesn't hold up through move-up appointments creates problems that no technique can compensate for.

Phanes extensions are sourced and weighted specifically for IBE and Genius Weft applications. Each pack contains two wefts with consistent weight per length, so stylists can build installs with confidence and deliver results that hold up over time.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about IBE and Genius Weft.

How long do IBE extensions last?

With proper care and regular move-up appointments every 6 to 8 weeks, IBE extensions typically last 6 to 12 months. The longevity of the install depends on the quality of the hair, the stylist's technique, and how well the client maintains the extensions at home.

Can Genius Weft be used with methods other than IBE?

Yes. While Genius Weft is an excellent choice for IBE, it is also compatible with other weft-based installation methods. The thin, flat construction and cut-without-shedding feature make it adaptable across techniques.

How many packs of extensions does a typical install require?

Most full installs require 2 to 4 packs depending on the client's hair density, the desired result, and the length being installed. A consultation with your stylist will determine the right amount for each client.

What makes IBE different from other extension methods?

IBE uses no adhesives, heat, or chemicals, making it one of the gentlest options for the natural hair. The bead-and-weft system also allows for a more natural movement and a cleaner grow-out compared to tape-in or bonded methods.

Do I need to be IBE certified to purchase Phanes extensions?

Phanes extensions are available exclusively to licensed hair professionals. IBE certification is not required to purchase, though we recommend working within your training and comfort level when selecting an installation method.
